Lot details Registration No: OLC 698 Chassis No: 2S-12166BW Mot Expiry: Feb 2007
Introduced in 1973, the Series II version of Daimler's iconic Sovereign boasted subtly revised styling with a slimmer fluted radiator grille, new front valance / air intake, re-profiled lights and a fresh interior. Available in either short- or long-wheelbase guises (though the latter was standardised in 1975), it was equipped with all round coil-sprung suspension, disc brakes and power-assisted rack and pinion steering. Fitted with automatic transmission as standard, it was reputedly capable of over 120mph thanks to its effortlessly potent 4235cc XK dohc straight-six engine. Justly feted by the contemporary motoring press, it remained a benchmark in luxury car design throughout its six year production life.
Finished in sliver with tan leather upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "very good" (interior trim, wheels / tyres) or "excellent" (engine, automatic gearbox, electrical equipment, chassis, bodywork, paintwork) condition. Reportedly in the current ownership since February 1988 when it was "purchased from a local Jaguar restorer having had some minor restoration and full 2-pack / lacquer respray", it has seemingly "covered only 46,450 miles from new". However, while "known to be genuine" this mileage is "only documented from 1987". Said to have been "used solely in summer months for occasional wedding hire then dry stored for servicing and maintenance", the Sovereign was apparently fitted with "a new Jaguar factory engine by Hatfields (Sheffield) in December 1992 and has covered only some 8,000 mile since". Summed-up by the seller as a "lovely car to drive" which attracts "many admiring comments when on the road", this pampered Daimler is offered for sale with the private registration number 'OLC 698', MOT certificate valid until February 2007 and road tax until August 2006.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
