Lot details Registration No: 946 UXU Chassis No: HBT7L15239 Mot Expiry: April 2007
A significant step in terms of 'Big Healey' evolution and foundation block for one of the 1960s' most charismatic rally cars, the 3000 MKI was introduced in March 1959. Capable of nearly 120mph, it was powered by an enlarged 2912cc version of the BMC C-Series straight six engine that developed some 124bhp and 167lbft of torque. Although, equipped with a similar chassis design to its 100/6 forebear, the new model enjoyed notably better braking thanks to the adoption of Girling front discs. Fitted with wire wheels and adjustable front seats as standard, it was available in two-seater (BN7) or 2+2 (BT7) guises.
Finished in red with black leather upholstery (piped in red), this particular left-hand drive example is described by the vendor as being in "excellent" condition with regard to its engine, four-speed manual plus overdrive gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres (while, he rates the chassis as "good"). Resident in America for many years where it reportedly underwent extensive restoration, '946 UXU' has only recently been imported to the UK. Said to have done "three Continental rallies in 2006" during the course of which it covered "over 4,000 miles with no problems", the Big Healey is summed up by the seller as "not perfect but a very good driving car - everything works". Sporting triple SU carburettors and a side-exit exhaust system, this well-travelled Roadster is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until April 26th 2007 and historic class (free) road tax until May 2007.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle is a 3000 MKII and not a 3000 MKI as stated in the catalogue.
