Lot details Registration No: L627RAK Chassis No: WDB1240422CO67644 Mot Expiry: Feb 2007
Introduced in 1986, the W124-series was arguably the last Mercedes-Benz model range to have its design parameters laid down by engineers rather than accountants. Faster and more fuel efficient than its predecessor thanks to a monocoque chassis that was stiffer, more aerodynamic and around 200lbs lighter, it further benefited from revised anti-dive suspension geometry and a sophisticated multi-link back axle set-up. Powered by a wide variety of petrol and diesel engines, W124s could be had in saloon, estate or coupe guises (though, most were specified with automatic transmission regardless of bodystyle). Re-branded as the E-class in 1993, the mid-size Mercedes otherwise remained remarkably unchanged throughout its eleven-year production life.
Finished in white with blue cloth upholstery, this particular coupe example is fitted with a 2199cc (150bhp, 155lbft) four-cylinder petrol engine allied to four-speed automatic transmission. Said to have had just "two former keepers" and to possess "full Mercedes service history", it is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Reportedly "a very nice looking car" that "drives spot on", it has only covered 78,555 miles from new. Riding on five-spoke alloys, it boasts a sunroof, electric windows and Bluespot radio". An emerging classic catered for by an active owner's club, 'L627 RAK' is offered for sale with history file and MOT certificate valid until February 2nd 2007.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
