Lot details Registration No: D335FYN Chassis No: 126024-1A-274034 Mot Expiry: April 2010
Introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1979, the new W126 S-class was a quantifiable improvement over its W116 predecessor. Lauded by the contemporary motoring press as the 'best car in the world', it was not only lighter than its forebear but also offered an improved ride and sharper handling. Styled by Bruno Sacco, its sleek silhouette hid all round independent suspension, disc brakes, power assisted steering and a range of powerful all alloy V8 engines (later supplemented by more fuel efficient straight-sixes). Still a staple part of many a diplomatic fleet, the W126 remains sought after to this day thanks to its impeccable build quality and timeless lines.
Finished in metallic silver with grey velour upholstery, this particular left-hand drive example is described by the vendor as being in "excellent" condition with regard to its 2962cc straight-six engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork. Reportedly supplied new to its previous keeper, a senior executive of the Castrol Oil Company, on 10th October 1986, `D335 FYN' is further understood to have been chauffeur driven prior to entering the current ownership on 19th April 2006. Said to have been "meticulously maintained throughout its life" and to have covered a mere 67,250 kms (approximately 42,000 miles) over the last twenty-three years the Mercedes-Benz boasts "a full service history together with all the original papers". Reputed to be to factory specification throughout except for the addition of a Thatcham `Hornet' Category 1 alarm, this imposing S-class saloon is accompanied by an owner's manual, maintenance booklet, original blue / white factory order sheet, Becker Mexico handbook, automatic climate control / cruise control operating instructions, dealer listing, tax disc valid until September 2009 and valid MOT certificate.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
