Lot details Registration No: XYY269M Chassis No: 17159 Mot Expiry: March 2007
Introduced at the October 1972 Paris Salon, the Ferrari 365GT4 2+2 was altogether more spacious than its 365GTC/4 predecessor (thanks to a 200mm longer wheelbase and revised track etc). Wonderfully resolved, the two-door fixed-head's distinctive yet understated lines were the work of Pininfarina. Based around a welded steel tubular chassis frame equipped with all-round independent suspension (self-levelling to the rear), power assisted steering and four-wheel disc brakes, it was powered by a Colombo derived 4390cc 'quad-cam' V12 engine allied to five-speed manual transmission. With some 340bhp and 312lbft of torque on tap, the 365GT4 2+2 was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds and 155mph (figures which then made it one of the very fastest four-seaters available). Riding on distinctive three-eared 'knock-off' Cromodora alloys and benefiting from sumptuous leather upholstery, teak veneers, electric windows and optional air-conditioning, the model remained in production until 1976 by which time some 521 are thought to have been made (including just 134 RHD cars).
Finished in blue with black leather upholstery, this particular right-hand drive manual example is said to have had just two former keepers. The subject of a past bare metal respray, 'XYY 269M' is believed but not warranted to have covered 36,000 miles from new. Reportedly accompanied by invoices totalling more than £66,000, it is further understood to have seen little use in recent years. A true front-engined, rear-wheel drive V12 Ferrari from the old school, this pampered 365GT4 2+2 is offered for sale with service history dating back to 1984, assorted MOT certificates from 1990 onwards, the aforementioned invoices, photographic respray record and current MOT certificate valid until March 2007.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
