Lot details Registration No: NNO642C Chassis No: BA74E59593 Mot Expiry: June 2006
An early Lotus Cortina is pretty special in standard form; a 1965-dated example with full FIA papers that has been prepared for long distance historic rallying even more so. Prior to being modified, we understand that the right-hand drive two-door sports saloon offered here had been on display in the Alford Motor Museum for over three years and, at one time, belonged to leading historic racer and collector Frank Sytner.
Apart from having the Lotus twin cam prepared for competition work, the interior has been kitted out with roll cage, fire extinguishers and cable-driven Halda Twinmaster, which is becoming increasingly rare and hard to source. The 5900 mileage displayed when entered for the sale is believed to be the total since restoration, whilst the paperwork, which includes stacks of bills detailing work carries out as well as charting its history, is impressive and should not be missed.
Currently, the condition of the bodyshell, both panels as well as all-important suspension points underneath, is described by the vendor as being very good as are paintwork in traditional for model white and green and black interior. 1558cc four-cylinder engine and four-speed manual gearbox are both reportedly in excellent order as is electrical equipment.
Both historic vehicle tax-exempt disc and MOT certificate, the latter only just renewed, will be valid until well into next year. NNO 642C is seemingly ready and capable to take a new owner rallying this season, whether on road or stage events, for which a 1965 Lotus Cortina continues to be competitive both in class and overall.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
