Lot details Registration No: RAY730N Chassis No: 1260442A137116 Mot Expiry: July 2005
Mercedes-Benz fixed head coupes with four full seats - as opposed to their SL roadsters - were restyled in 1980, borrowing body lines derived from the Type W126 saloons, though with a more sporting horizontal radiator grille. SECs were only available with V8 motors, initially with either 3.8 or 5-litre engines.
This Stuttgart-built 1985 500SEC has had a total of six previous owners, only two of them during the last eleven years, having been maintained regardless of cost by the same mechanic. The complete exhaust was renewed as was the battery in December 2003 with warranties on file. The bodyshell, above and below, is rated by the current owner as good. Blue paintwork is said to be in good condition, too, as is black leather trim and mahogany wood within. The 4973cc eight-cylinder engine is reportedly in good order, with no faults known to the vendor, and the four-speed automatic transmission also good.
The fully loaded specification includes ABS, cruise control, air-conditioning, radio, tape and 6-track disc player and power-steering. The cherished RAY 730N registration is included.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
