Perhaps it is because of its understated yet avant garde styling but some thirty-four years on it seems hard to imagine that the W107 series SL and the Jaguar E-type Series III were exact contemporaries. Both launched in 1971, they were poles apart in terms of execution and design ethos. Competing head to head in the all-important American market, the W107's refinement, build quality and engineering depth helped sound the death knell for older reactionary designs like the E-type. Though, its refusal to age either externally or internally led to an 18 year lifespan, early examples of the W107 are now truly collectable.
Finished in ivory with red upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as having an excellent chassis, paintwork and 3.5 litre V8 engine with superb bodywork. He also comments that the interior trim is "all good except for two tears in the front seat". Said to be "a very reliable and fast touring car", it was apparently used by its previous keeper for the occasional trip between his English and Majorcan homes. Treated to a rebuild of its automatic gearbox in 1995, it is offered for sale with "detailed written history". Believed by its current owner to have covered some 128,000 miles from new, he also informs us that a hardtop is available for collection from his Staffordshire home should the successful purchaser so desire.
PLEASE NOTE: The vendor has informed us that this car is fully wax oiled and comes with a new hood, wings and sills with invoices for these in the history file.

All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.

You can collect your new pride and joy from our venue until 1pm the day following the sale or our partners are on hand to help arrange safe transportation:
