Along with the Ford Model T, Citroen 2CV and BMC Austin/Morris Mini, the Volkswagen Beetle is generally reckoned to be one of the elite pack of pop motoring icons. Conceived in the small Stuttgart design office of Dr Ferdinand Porsche, the air-cooled, rear-engined `People's Wagon' was sponsored prewar by Hitler and resurrected postwar by the British army as part of the allies rebuilding of the enemy's bombed out industry.
This 1970-manufactured Beetle, a righthand drive 1300, was acquired by the vendor in November 2000 since when it has been dry-stored. The vehicle has only had one previous owner and, though MOT tested with latest certificate not requiring renewal until next June, is currently on SORN with the DVLC. The 33,026 miles displayed when entered is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage.
Current condition of the 2-door bodyshell is described as very good with blue paintwork and white vinyl trim also both very good. The 1.3-litre 4-cylinder motor and 4-speed manual gearbox are reportedly in very good order, too, as is the electrical equipment.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
