Lot details Registration No: KXL 357 Chassis No: WFC86 Mot Expiry: March 2005
Displayed in a notable private museum of veterans and vintage cars, this 1949-built Silver Wraith is testament to the build quality of Rolls-Royce. Having covered little more than five thousand miles in the past twenty years, the Park Ward bodied saloon is in wonderfully original condition, having been knowledgeably maintained all its life, the only requirement for a current MOT being renewal of battery and rear tyres. Once registered YOB 1, in recent years, the original KXL 357 registration has been put back.
Previously owned by a Colonel Gibson, who purchased it in June 1955 for £1400 plus a £1200 Jaguar. He kept copious records of his expenditure as a photostat on file confirms. A letter shows that R-R London Service fitted a replacement engine, not because of a problem, but to take advantage of the latest full-flow oil filtration. The total cost, including new window rubber seals, checking front nearside door fit and replacement heater motor, was just £401 12s 6d. At this point, the milometer was zeroed (since 1963, the total mileage would appear to have been 34,520 miles).
The Colonel sold his Wraith 10 March 1970 to London dealers Mann Egertons, who, later that year, sold it to John Lindley, the previous keeper in the logbook.
Current condition of chassis, bodywork and black paint is said to be excellent, beige interior in wonderful original condition, 4257cc 6-cylinder motor reportedly in excellent order and 4-speed manual gearbox very good.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
