Sold for £5,850

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: T.B.A.
Chassis No: XLWWH78M121760
Mot Expiry: June 2016

- Only 2,600 recorded miles and one owner until 2015 when they passed away

- Custom made wooden dash board with Smiths instruments and extra switches

- Custom rear wash-wipe, auxiliary lights, and Ziebart treatment

This twin-carb 1750 Maxi HLS with its 5-speed gear box is fitted with a host of extras that are believed to have been installed in the car when it was new, including a custom made wooden dash board featuring chrome rimmed Smiths instruments and an array of switches for the various accessories. These switches controlled useful features such as a rear screen wash-wipe facility and front and rear fog lights, the latter incorporating extra reversing lights. Situated above the switches and within close reach of the leather covered steering wheel is a Radiomobile stereo radio and cassette player. Upon opening the doors to reveal the HLS specification Sorrell cloth that is fitted to the famous reclining Maxi bed seats, sill plaques state that the car was supplied by Ralph Grant & Son of Leicester. Reportedly purchased new by a British Leyland car enthusiast, he modified the Maxi to his personal taste, but despite having the car thoroughly treated with Ziebart corrosion protection, he proceeded to cover just over 2,000 miles in it. When he passed away the Maxi was discovered by the vendor on his property last year along with several other low mileage icons of our British motoring heritage. The car was then registered in the deceased's sister's name and a few weeks later in the name of our vendor, who is also an enthusiast and collector of Austin-Morris and MG cars but sadly has insufficient space in which to keep the Maxi. Upon acquisition, the vendor informs us that he took the car to a British Leyland car specialist who carried out a thorough recommissioning and service on the car and fitted new tyres. As one would expect on a car with just 2,600 recorded miles, the vendor describes all aspects of it as being in excellent condition. This must surely be an extremely rare opportunity for a collector of the marque to acquire a top-of-the-range Maxi with desirable custom features, ridiculously low recorded mileage, and special items such as Karobes seat covers and what is believed to be the original British Leyland supplied cardboard tool kit box.

PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle is currently going through a registration transfer and the documents are with the DVLA.
