Lot details Registration No: GHP325T Chassis No: GD2D12746G Mot Expiry: None
The most potent version of the MGB, the V8 GT, first saw the light of day in 1973. Powered by the ubiquitous 3528cc Rover V8 unit, it produced 137bhp - sufficient output for a sprightly 0-60mph time of around eight seconds and a top speed of 125mph. As the all-alloy engine was lighter than the cast iron unit of standard MGB, no significant changes were required to the rest of the car. Production of the V8 was curtailed in 1976 (reputedly over BLMC's concern it would limit sales of the less powerful Triumph Stag) after just 2,591 had been built.
This 1976 V8 MGB is finished in Yellow (Bracken) allied to a Tan interior. It was apparently imported from the Channel Islands during 1979 - hence the 'T' rather than a 1976 registration number. The vendor informs us that it benefited from a degree of lower body restoration as well as the replacement of a number of mechanical components before being placed in dry storage 20 years ago. Now wakened from its slumbers, it is regarded by the vendor as having "good" bodywork/paintwork "but with some blistering", "good" interior trim, "excellent" V8 engine and "good" overdrive gearbox "apart from a noisy reverse gear". The vendor believes but does not warrant the recorded mileage of just 57,000 to be genuine.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
