The result of a merger between two of Birmingham's oldest and most respected manufacturing concerns, the Alldays & Onions Pneumatic Engineering Co Ltd was founded in 1889. A major supplier to the local railway, blacksmith and foundry industries, Alldays & Onions took its first steps as a motor vehicle producer in 1898 with the Traveller quadricycle. An ingenious tandem two-seater equipped with a 4hp single-cylinder De Dion Bouton engine, the Traveller was joined by a more conventional shaft-driven design five years later. However, it was the 10/12hp introduced in 1905 that really established Alldays & Onions as a proper car maker in its own right. Based around a leaf-sprung ladder frame chassis, the new model was powered by a 1400cc two-cylinder engine mated to H-gate manual transmission. In production for an impressive eight years, the 10/12hp could be had with a variety of two-seater, four-seater and commercial coachwork. Finished in blue with brown leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "fair" (electrical equipment, bodywork, paintwork), "OK" (gearbox, chassis) or "serviceable" (interior trim) condition. Riding on "good" wooden artillery wheels shod with "poor" tyres, we are advised that it will need re-commissioning prior to road use (though, its engine is said to have been running within the last few months). In the current family ownership since the early 1960s, a bulkhead mounted plaque attests to the fact that this Alldays & Onions was examined and dated to 1905 by the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain some years ago. A rare survivor from a company with an especially rich heritage (Alldays could trace its ancestry back to 1720, while Onions was established in 1650) this appealing open tourer is offered for sale with "VCC dating certificate", "original buff logbook" and more modern V5 registration document.

PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle is fitted with a quadrant type gear change gate and we have not had it running at the sale.
