Developed under the watchful eye of Porsche Chief Executive Peter Schutz, the 911 Carrera 3.2 made its debut at the September 1983 Frankfurt Motor Show. Visually indebted to the outgoing 911 SC, the newcomer wore a revised front valance complete with auxiliary driving lamps and a subtle 'Carrera' script on its engine lid. Available in coupe, targa and cabriolet guises, it remained faithful to established 911 practice by employing all-round independent torsion-bar suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and rack and pinion steering. Estimated to be eighty-percent new, the model's 3164cc (hence '3.2') flat-six engine was credited with developing 231bhp and 209lbft of torque. Allied to five-speed transmission, it proved both rev-happy and flexible. Reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds and 153mph, the Carrera 3.2 was progressively developed over the course of its six-year production run. However, those looking for that little bit extra in terms of poise and road presence could opt for the 'Sport' package (later known as 'Sport Equipment') which included a deeper front valance, 'tea tray' rear spoiler, Bilstein shock absorbers and 16-inch Fuchs forged alloy wheels with black centres.
Finished in black with black leather upholstery and a black hood, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its engine, five-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork. Reportedly able to boast "an extensive service history with twenty-one stamps from main dealers and specialists", the Cabriolet is further understood to have been treated to "a new clutch and oil pipes" during its last round of maintenance. Showing some 129,545 miles to its odometer (which equates to an average service interval of under 6,200 miles), the Porsche is said to benefit from both a Pioneer CD/radio and immobiliser. Nicely presented, this striking `triple black' 911 is offered for sale with the aforementioned service history and MOT certificate valid until October 11th 2011.
