- c.69,400 miles, fast road clutch and recent brake service
The Z series would never have made production without the enthusiastic backing of Nissan USA's President Yutaka Katayama. A small team headed by Yoshihiko Matsuo developed the project, and whilst the 240Z, which debuted in 1969, was a smash hit Stateside, sales were hampered in Britain by a high purchase price and residual anti-Japanese sentiment. The straight-six (L24) motor was a revelation in drivability, and would scream to its high-for-the-day 6500rpm redline, whilst the rugged all-round independent McPherson strut suspension allowed for hooligan driving in a league beyond that of its natural competitor, the 3-litre Capri. Arriving during 1973, the 260Z had a more grownup, GT-esque feel about it and was powered by an enlarged 2565cc unit (hence the '260' nomenclature). The newcomer further benefited from a strengthened floorpan / chassis rails and the adoption of a rear anti-roll bar. More luxuriously trimmed than its predecessor, the 260Z remained in production until 1978.
Originally delivered to the USA, this left-hand drive two seater benefits from a recent respray in the original striking shade of green complimented by a black interior. Imported to the UK in 2016 by the previous owner, the car was also treated to attention to its floorpan upon arrival. The recognised modification of the fitment of a 5-speed Nissan Silvia gearbox has also been carried out. Further improvements include Koni adjustable shock absorbers, polyurethane suspension bushes and a recent fast road clutch. Subsequently acquired by the vendor, who intended to develop the car for use in long distance road rallies, a change of plans now necessitating its sale. Displaying some 69,430 miles, this lovely Z is accompanied by a Swansea V5 and will have a fresh MoT in time for the sale. The current cherished registration is being retained.
PLEASE NOTE: This lot does not possess a current MoT. When presented for test on 27 May it failed due to the following:
- Registration plate lamp not illuminating the registration plate
- Windscreen wiper not operating automatically when switched on
- Windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid
- Exhaust has a major leak of exhaust gases (manifold area)
- Exhaust system not adequately supported central rear (broken and missing)
- Seatbelt retracting mechanism defective offside lower
- Body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 3 body mountings offside rear
PLEASE NOTE: The car has been allocated the new registration 'CDM 559M' by DVLA.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
