Chassis No: TCF1886L
Mot Expiry: Feb 2007

A sop to its North American dealer network who were genuinely fearful about the sales prospects of the Michelotti-styled TR4, Triumph introduced the export only TR3B in March 1962. Visually indistinguishable from its TR3A forebear, it utilised the same tough boxed-section chassis equipped with independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a 'live' rear axle and disc / drum brakes. Where it differed was in its drivetrain. The only 'sidescreen' TR to boast an all-synchromesh gearbox, it was fitted with the same 2138cc four-cylinder engine as its TR4 sibling from May 1962 onwards (chassis TCF1-). Reputed to develop some 105bhp and 127lbft of torque, this robust OHV unit endowed the TR3B with a 110mph top speed and spirited acceleration. Only in production for eight months, just 3,331 TR3Bs are thought to have been made.
Finished in Old English White with red leather / vinyl upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in good (four-speed plus overdrive manual gearbox, electrical equipment), very good (bodywork, paintwork, wheels / tyres) or excellent (chassis, interior trim) condition. In the current ownership since 1997, it is reported to have undergone an extensive "body off refurbishment by Worcester Classic Car (TR Specialist)" at an estimated cost of £25,000. Benefiting from "Revington front / rear suspension mods" and an "alloy fuel tank", it was apparently treated to a Revington engine rebuild in 2000 which included a "stage 3 head and balanced crankshaft etc". Converted from left- to right-hand drive and registered as WSU 753 since entering the UK, it is said to "drive beautifully". A rare and appealing sports car, it is offered for sale with MOT certificate and historic class (free) road tax valid until February 2007.

All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
