Lot details Registration No: RAG508M Chassis No: GHN5320726G Mot Expiry: June 2006
When the MGB replaced the MGA in 1962, the main changes were the lower and wider monocoque body-shell, rather than separate chassis and body, and a larger 1798cc engine instead of the 1622cc power unit fitted to the final batch of MGAs. A revised Mk2 B with all-synchromesh gearbox followed from 1967.
This B dates from 8 October 1973, since when, the entrant tells us, the right-hand drive roadster has had five owners. In black with black interior and with soft-top renewed, it has wire wheels and a Kenlow fan. Currently, shell, panels, paintwork, interior, 1.8-litre engine, 4-speed manual gearbox with benefit of overdrive, and electrical equipment are said by the vendor all to be in good order.
The documents file includes bills detailing work carried out, workshop manuals, owners club magazines and the last ten MOTs, charting just 23,000 miles driven in ten years; the latest certificate being valid until the middle of June, the tax disc current until September. The 43,000 miles displayed when entered for this auction is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage for this quintessentially British sportscar from new.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
