Lot details Registration No: XSY 611 Chassis No: S837150 Mot Expiry: T.B.A.
The final version of the XK sportscar line and the last Jaguar to carry a separate chassis, the XK150 was introduced in May 1957. While its use of independent torsion-bar front suspension, a 'live' leaf-sprung rear axle and rack and pinion steering mirrored the practice of its XK140 predecessor the new model benefited from all-round Dunlop disc brakes. Stylistically, it was brought up-to-date with less ostentatious curves and a larger, wrap-around single-piece windscreen. The dashboard too was altered eschewing wood trim for padded leather. With the E-type still very much under development, Jaguar were keen to sustain the sporting reputation that their remarkable five Le Mans victories had earned them. To this end, the XK150 could be had in both 3442cc and 3781cc guises and to standard, `SE' or ultimate 'S' specification. With power outputs ranging from 190bhp for the base 3.4 up to 265bhp for the ultimate 3.8S, performance was always an XK150 strong point.
According to its quoted chassis number this particular example began life as a left-hand drive drophead coupe. Reportedly "brought back to the UK approximately eleven years ago", 'XSY 611' is further understood to have "covered 11,000 miles since the completion of a 'ground-up' restoration". As well as conversion to right-hand drive, work included the fitment of a walnut dashboard and door cappings (though, the original padded leather items have been retained). Said to have been treated to "a repaint and new clutch in 2007", the 3.4 litre manual car rides on chrome wire wheels shod with fresh Avon crossply tyres. Apparently "awarded best in class in the 'Pride and Joy' category at a Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club meeting last summer (June 2008)", this handsome XK150 is offered for sale with current MOT certificate.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
