Lot details Registration No: C3 CLS Chassis No: WDB1260462A558877 Mot Expiry: June 2008
Introduced at the September 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 420SEC was a welcome addition to Mercedes-Benz's existing C126 coupe range. Based around the same two-door monocoque bodyshell as its 500SEC and 560SEC siblings, it was equipped with all-round independent suspension (coil-and wishbone front / semi-trailing arm rear) four-wheel disc brakes and power assisted steering. Allied to four-speed automatic transmission as standard, its new 4196cc SOHC V8 engine was credited with 231bhp and 240lbft of torque. Making the most of its 0.34 drag coefficient, the luxury express was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 8.2 seconds and 138mph. By far the rarest C126 variant, just 3,680 420SECs are thought to have been made between 1986 and 1991.
Finished in metallic blue with grey leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Reportedly treated to "a new offside front wing and partial respray 12 months ago", the coupe is understood to "drive superbly". Riding on AMG alloy wheels, its recorded mileage of 76,000 is apparently substantiated by a "full history file". Currently undergoing a cherished number plate transfer, this handsome two-door Mercedes is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until June 2008 and road tax valid until October 2007.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
