Lot details Registration No: CNE 793 Chassis No: 32377 Mot Expiry: Oct 2004
The 1936-built 17hp sports saloon offered here first left the Armstrong-Siddeley works in Parkside, Coventry, bound for the main agents in King Street, Manchester, where it was employed as a demonstrator before being purchased by a Mr W Taylor of Marple in Cheshire.
The sporting 4-light 4-door saloon was then in this first ownership for the next twenty-seven years before being bought by the second owner, again in Marple, a Mr E Beard, who used the car on a daily basis to commute to Buxton. Following acquisition in 1990, the present owner restored the car to the present condition.
The ash framework was replaced as required and all four wings were replaced. A new wiring harness was fitted and all chromework replated. The original leather, found to be in good condition, and many period features were retained. The black over off-white cellulose paintwork is described as being very good. The engine has been freshly rebored with pistons, exhaust valves and camshaft renewed, Newton clutch relined and steering box overhauled. Following gearbox input bearing renewal, the pre-selector 4-speed transmission is reportedly in very good order.
According to the vendor, CNE 793 successfully completed a tour of Ireland last autumn, performing well throughout the 450 miles trip. The car has good brakes and is pleasing to drive. The original handbook, logbook and some tools are included. The 66,600 mileage displayed when entered is believed to be the genuine total.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
