The famous Moto Morini concern introduced the first of their long running , "Heron" headed vee twins in 1973 when they unveiled the 3 ½ Strada. The new model featured a 72 degree vee twin housed longitudinally in the twin loop tubular frame. The Strada was followed the following year by a "Sport" variant using essentially the same cycle parts, although the upright handlebars were replaced by clip-ons and a humped racing style saddle replaced the dualseat of the touring model. The engine developed a healthy 39 bhp, sufficient to propel the motorcycle to 109 mph. Handling was of the highest quality and became something of a benchmark for the class. For the 1975/76 season a disc brake replaced the twin leading she front drum and in 1978 cast alloy wheels and a revised seat were introduced. The machine continued in this guise with few changes other than to the finish until 1981 when the first K series machine became available. The engine remained as before, although an electric starter was now fitted. The bodywork was revised and the finish was now predominately all red. In 1982 the K1 was introduced with a second disc brake at the front and a disc rear brake. The next major revision and the last to take place before the company became part of the Cagiva group arrived in the form of the K2 in 1984. The new model, which was never officially imported into the UK, featured completely new bodywork with an integrated seat and tank unit and a frame mounted fairing. Mechanically the motorcycle continued much as before, retaining the good balance between handling and performance. Offered in either red or silver the K2 continued until 1988 when it was replaced by the fully enclosed "Dart".
This example of the red K2 variant is offered in excellent original condition with German papers.
