This colourful home market MKI MG A 1600 matches Red paintwork to Black interior trim and rides on painted wire wheels. The previous keeper retained the Roadster from 1999 to 2016. Now, following a period of storage, it will require a modest degree of recommissioning before returning to the road once more. Its specification includes a Lucas fog/driving lamp, period wing mirrors and a chrome luggage rack, and the MG is now offered complete with a collection of invoices and old MOT certificates. To quote the company’s own advertising, the MG A was the ‘first of a new line’. Launched at the 1955 Frankfurt Salon, it owed its modern streamlined design to the body Syd Enever created for George Philips’ 1951 Le Mans car. In 1959 the engine capacity was increased from 1,489cc to 1,588cc, and some 31,501 examples of the MKI 1600 were made before the model was supplanted by the MII in 1961.
