Historically, Daimler is Britain's oldest car company, being the result of a meeting between Frederick Simms and Gottlieb Daimler, Simms acquiring a licence from the German to build Daimler rail and marine engines in the UK. The Daimler Motor Company's first motor car was produced in Coventry in 1896. Following Daimler being absorbed by Jaguar in 1960, most cars carrying the Daimler badge have really been Jaguars. The DS420, however, has been a notable exception, still being very much a `Daimler' Daimler.
This right-hand drive DS420, reportedly eighth from last limousine to have been hand-built with Vanden Plas coachwork, was specially ordered from Jaguar-Daimler for a Middle Eastern Royal family, who have owned the luxury four-door from new in 1991. We further understand that during their ownership the limo has only ever been chauffeur-driven. The leather-trimmed interior is to a special design with individual front seats equipped with head restraints, occasional seats in the back facing forward, simulated suede headlining, lambs-wool over-rugs, special foot-rests and a high brake light. According to the vendor, the air-conditioning has only recently been in receipt of a major service, while overall cosmetic as well as mechanical condition of 4235cc six-cylinder engine and four-speed automatic transmission is said to be all good.
The MOT test has been freshly passed, so the current certificate will be valid until June of next year, whilst the 57,000 miles displayed when entered for this auction is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage for the Daimler since new.
PLEASE NOTE: The vendor has informed us that the car cost £75,000 new and although showing three keepers on the V5, the car has only been chauffeur driven by the first owner.

All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
