1991 Nissan 300 ZX

Sold for £2,588

Lot details
Registration No: J2 OBJ
Chassis No: JN10RGZ32U0002228
Mot Expiry: July 2008

Named as CAR & DRIVER magazine's 'sports car of the year' a record seven times between 1990 and 1996, the 300ZX was a world away from its boulevardier predecessor in terms of style and performance. Boasting an admirably low 0.31cd and impressive torsional rigidity, its monocoque shell was fitted with all-round independent double-wishbone suspension (near identical in layout and execution to that found on the contemporary Skyline GTR), HICAS (speed sensitive four-wheel steering) and ABS disc brakes. Powered by a 24-valve DOHC 2960cc V6 engine in both normally aspirated and turbocharged guises, the Z32 (as it was known internally) proved to be a seriously fast car. Indeed, the force-fed variant with 300bhp and 283lbft of torque at its disposal was found capable of 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and 165mph by Motor Trend magazine. Memorably described by the late Russell Bulgin as being a half-way house between Porsche's 928 and 959 models the technology / cost intensive 300 ZX eventually fell victim to its parent company's accounts department.

Finished in red with black leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its twin-turbocharged engine, five-speed manual gearbox, interior trim, chassis and bodywork. However, he notes that (a) the paintwork could do with some "slight work", (b) there is "a small hole in the driver's seat" and (c) the tyres "need attention". Said to have had "one previous owner who uprated the V6 to 450bhp via microchip (bill enclosed)", 'J2 OBJ' was apparently featured in a 1995 issue of Top Car magazine. Acquiring its customized front and rear spoilers that same year, 2003 saw the targa-roofed sportscar treated to a stainless steel exhaust system. Riding on five-spoke alloy wheels, this fearsome Nissan is offered for sale with current MOT certificate and road tax both valid until July 2008.
