Lot details Registration No: HE 1502 Chassis No: A50657 Mot Expiry: March 2006
This Chevrolet was built in Canada in 1922, when it was ordered by and supplied to an Edward Gelder of Barnsley. He specified that the open tourer should be RHD and have the optional electric-start package. The Barnsley HE 1502 registration, a £2000 valuation for which is included, is still safely on the car.
Having been driven sparingly, the North American classic was sold to the second owner in 1953, whereupon it again led a sheltered life before being sold in 1958 to Cyril Fletcher Holmes, who changed the colour from original grey and black to the current maroon over black, which is rated as very good. He also named his favourite motor car after wife `Emily', her name being written just in front of the screen where it remains to this day.
When next changing hands in 1988, the mileage had only risen to 7800 miles from new and, for the next fourteen years, this only rose by a further 200 miles before coming into current ownership in 2002. Since then, hood, carpets and battery have been renewed and adjustments made to the two-wheel brake system.
Original interior trim in black is said to be very good, an Auster screen and new apron providing weather protection for rear passengers. Period extras include brass horn, oil lamps, fire extinguishers and petrol can. Full weather equipment as well as original instruction booklet and starting handle are included.
Remarkably original, this fine open car with powerful 22 horsepower has been used only sparingly over the years and is claimed to be ready to go.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
