The Bayerische Motoren Werke first made WW1 aero engines and then motorcycles from 1923. It was only when they had bought Dixi that they moved into car production and, by 1929, were making their own BMW-badged models.
The current West Midlands lady owner tells us that this 1973-manufactured BMW 2002 with cabriolet coachwork by German specialists Baur has only had two owners since 1976. On file, she says, are MOT certificates dating from 1976 through until 1985, since when the open BMW has not been taxed having been garage-stored.
As a result of such pampering, bodyshell, both above and below, is claimed to be in good condition with blue paintwork and check trim within are both said to be good.2-litre 4-cylinder motor and 5-speed manual gearbox as well as all electrical equipment are reportedly also in good order.
The 38,470 miles displayed when entered for this sale is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage for this characterful Bavarian from new. The current MOT will not need renewing until next April.
