Lot details Registration No: NME 71C Chassis No: 2338660N Mot Expiry: Jan 2005
This right hand drive Jaguar Mk2 with 3.8 litre twin cam motor first left the Browns Lane works in Coventry in 1965 when it was exported to South Africa and was brought back to the UK in 1989 where it remained in the private collection of Kevin Masterton until 2003. The indicated speedo reading of 58,528 kilometers when entered for this sale is believed to be the genuine total from new and is supported not only by old MOTs on file, but also by the condition of the vehicle which is almost completely original and pristine.
According to the vendor, the saloon bodyshell would appear to be absolutely sound underneath and the mechanical components seemingly sound, oil pressure remaining at 50psi minimum. Maroon paintwork and red interior are both reportedly excellent, all the electrical equipment works, and the engine and transmission are said to be in excellent order. Prior to the latest MOT pass (12/1/04), the rear brakes were given a £500 overhaul and all four tyres are as new, having been replaced due to their cracking through under-use. At some time, the standard rear spats have been replaced with the lighter and visually enhancing Coombs-type. It also benefits from having 4-speed manual gearbox with the desirable overdrive, power-assisted steering, period Radiomobile radio, Smiths heater and chrome wires. The exhaust is in stainless steel. One interesting feature is the image of a dog's head in the centre of the dashboard veneer.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
