  Lot 37

1973 Maserati Bora

Lot details
Registration No: FTM274L
Chassis No: AM11749512
Mot Expiry: Sept 2014

The Bora brought a breath of fresh air to the supercar world when introduced in 1971. The company's first mid-engined offering, it combined Giugiaro-penned grace with a surprising amount of practical space and was not only one of the most powerful cars of its period but, for some, the high point of the marque's pre-Ferrari existence. The steel chassis/body was of monocoque construction, to the rear of which was a steel subframe to which the longitudinally engine and transmission were bolted. The suspension was independent all round - a first a for a Maserati road car. A Citroen high pressure hydraulic system was employed to operate the ventilated disc brakes, pedal box, driver's seat and the retractable headlights. Great attention was paid to minimising noise, vibration and harshness.

The left-hand drive sale car has been in its current ownership since 2009 and is powered by the desirable 4.9-litre V8 engine driving through the standard ZF five-speed transaxle. It is finished in a distinctive shade of Damson-coloured Metallic paint complemented by a brushed stainless steel finish for the roof and A pillars, and cream hide interior. The car's impressive specification includes: electric windows, Campagnolo alloy wheels, air conditioning and the original radio/cassette player. The vendor describes the bodywork as "unmarked" and the interior as "beautiful and original". It should certainly be relatively free of wear and tear as the Bora was dry-stored for 13 years and is understood to have still only covered 21,000 miles from new.

Just recommissioned and serviced, `FTM 274L' is being offered complete with some service history and MOT certificates dating back to 1990 (at which time the indicated mileage was 19,131). This vehicle has been in two private collections, one for 13 years and one under recent ownership for 4 years. All the instruments are in working order including the oil temperature guage and clock. An increasingly infrequent opportunity to acquire a very handsome and seemingly low mileage example of one of Italy's most exciting period supercars.
