This unique car was originally a 1962 Cooper T59 Formula Junior and is rumoured to have been one of Ken Tyrell's team cars until it was crashed quite heavily. John Cooper sold the car to a Cambridge based aeronautical engineer named Peter Fisk who rebuilt it using square-tube framework and adapted the rear suspension configuration to what was then F1 specification, with twin radius arms.
It has been fitted with a number of engines over its race and speed event history but now has a Ford twin-cam unit installed with BRM cam covers and Hewland Mk 9 gearbox. The owner bought the car from a business contact who had formed an informal racing association with Alec Rivers-Fletcher and the car is painted pale blue, as were the other 'team' cars. It was being advertised as the Cooper-Fisk BRM, largely in deference to Rivers-Fletcher's career connections with the BRM team.
The twin-cam engine was overhauled by Racing Fabrications in 2002, and has only been used for speed events since. Utilising a Lotus block, crank and rods, with Cosworth pistons, the engine produced 140 bhp when dyno tested after refurbishment.
The owner describes the car as being in very good overall condition but requiring a gearbox rebuild. Its history file includes period photographs, correspondence with previous owners, invoices, an HSCC Vehicle Identity Form dating from 1999 and an MSA Competition Log Book. Ideal for classic hillclimbs and sprints in the UK and prestigious events throughout Europe; the owner believes that the car could also be accepted into HSCC's Classic Racing Cars series with some modifications.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
