The Jaguar XJ Series and its Daimler counterparts were introduced in 1968. Some four years into production a 12-cylinder 5.3-litre XJ was offered for the first time, the Series 1, 2 and 3 Daimler versions of which were dubbed the Double Six; thereby reviving the famous Daimler model name of the vintage era. The later variants (XJ81 and X305) produced between 1993 and 1997 featured a 6.0-litre variant of the engine mated to a new GM-based four-speed automatic transmission.
This nicely presented 1993 Double Six has the later 6.0-litre powerplant and is finished in Flamenco Red Metallic complemented by Magnolia leather piped in Wine Red. The saloon's Heritage certificate confirms its first owner to have been the chairman of a prominent UK company, while its keeper since 2006 is a respected Jaguar enthusiast. 'L848 XUT' featured inside and on the cover of the November 9 edition of Practical Classics, and also the August 2011 issue of Jaguar Enthusiast magazine. The vendor has had the Daimler serviced recently and has only been employing it for special occasions. He describes the bodywork, paintwork and interior trim as "excellent", the engine "sound" and the automatic gearbox as "functioning correctly". The Daimler comes complete with refurbished 17-inch XK8 wheels, CD multi-stack player, remote locking, electric sunroof and front seat adjustment, handbooks, "beautifully crafted" rear picnic tables and an MOT into May next year.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
