Lot details Registration No: UH 5416 Chassis No: 53241 Mot Expiry: April 2005
Probably most Austin Seven fans will know only too well that this 1928-dated A7 two-seater sports is actually a genuine, original and therefore very rare `Boyd-Carpenter Special'. According to the vendor, this is the earliest of five known survivors from the thirty-five B-C A7s built, making it actually much rarer than the Ulster Austin.
Apparently, chassis number 53241 was imported from Ireland five years or so ago and, since then, has been completely rebuilt at what is claimed to have been considerable expense. Among skilled work carried out has been the fabrication by specialists Compound Curvatures of Nottingham of new aluminium panelling for the front half of the body, including the renewal of nose-cone, skirting and bonnet.
The classic A7 750cc four-cylinder engine was also rebuilt and tuned up, says the vendor, who tells us that, with the Chummy carburettor currently fitted, performance is lively - although an original NFS carb and manifold come with the car. Beneath the rebuilt body, chassis condition is rated as good, he says, red paintwork in average order, interior trim in black Rexene good, and three-speed gearbox and electrical equipment reportedly good. The MOT is valid until April.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
