Launched in August 1932, the new Morris 'Ten' was available in both saloon and special fixed head coupe versions. Another best seller for William Morris's company, its appeal to 1930s motorists was much the same as it is for today's enthusiasts. A simple yet well crafted design, its leaf sprung ladder chassis was powered by a 1292cc sidevalve, four cylinder engine mated to a four-speed manual gearbox. Reputedly capable of over 60mph, it came with all round drum brakes as standard. Comfortable but agile it was budget motoring with minimum compromise and plentiful charm.
Finished in green over black with green leather upholstery, this particular 'barn find' coupe has been in dry storage for the last twenty-six years. Said to be capable of "self-starting, running and driving", the vendor further reports that its chassis and interior trim are in very good condition. Requiring repairs to its "front wings and scuttle" as well as cosmetic refurbishment, it pleasingly retains its original rexine-covered roof (complete with dummy pram irons). A potentially rewarding restoration project, it is offered for sale with V5C registration document.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
