The Silver Spur was the moniker adopted by Rolls-Royce for the long wheelbase versions of its Silver Spirit, and belonged to a new generation of models which also included the Flying Spur, Silver Dawn, Touring Limousine and Park Ward, plus the Mulsanne and Eight Series models of its sister company, Bentley. Penned by Fritz Feller, the range was first represented at the 1980 Paris Salon and was a welcome replacement for the long-serving Silver Shadow and its siblings. The design was not entirely new, however, and employed the floorpan of the outgoing model as well as its proven OHV 6750cc V8 powerplant. The opulent newcomer was lower and longer than its predecessor though and, courtesy of its finely-tuned hydraulic self-levelling suspension, was said to provide the best roadholding ever offered by the marque at that time. There were a total of four iterations of the range, via which the models remained in production until 1998.
Leaving the production line in late 1985 as a Rolls-Royce Silver Spur, this unique motorcar was converted new to fully stretched Limousine specification by the renowned specialist coachbuilder Jankel of Weybridge, Surrey. Some 10 years ago the decision was taken to reconfigure it as a Bentley with the appropriate radiator grille, wheels, badges etc. Finished in Black complemented by Black-piped Grey leather upholstery, the Rolls-Royce / Bentley's specification includes: black interior woodwork, rear seating for five and a brace of DVD screens. Recently treated to a retrim in the rear, 'C650 XLO' is understood to have covered 100,683 miles to date and is described by the vendor as having "average" bodywork and paintwork, "average" front interior trim and "above average" rear trim, and "good" V8 engine and automatic transmission. He is now selling the car complete with a file of assorted bills and old MOT certificates, plus one valid into November.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
