Launched in 1966, the Alfa Romeo Spider was based on a shortened version of the company's Giulia 105 series platform. Equipped with all round independent coil-sprung suspension, four wheel disc brakes and a five-speed manual gearbox, its specification was notably advanced. In production for an impressive twenty-eight years, the penultimate 'Series 3' version (as it was unofficially known) was introduced in 1983. Benefiting from a stiffened chassis (to allow the fitment of wider wheels / tyres), revised dashboard, duck-tail spoiler and new bumpers, its 1962cc four-cylinder 'twin-cam' engine featured both Bosch fuel-injection and variable valve timing.
Finished in red with parchment upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as having a good engine, transmission, bodywork, paint and chassis. Though, its interior and electrics are rated as average. A Californian import that has since been converted to right-hand drive, its odometer shows an unwarranted 79,784 miles. Running on unleaded petrol, this appealing Alfa carries a valid MOT certificate until Valentine's Day 2006.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
