The so-called Series 3 (or S3) version of Alfa Romeo's long running and much loved Spider was introduced in 1983. Visually distinguished by its black rubber bumpers and subtle boot lid spoiler, the newcomer also played host to a variety of mechanical and trim refinements. Powered by the familiar 1962cc DOHC four-cylinder engine allied to five-speed manual transmission, the 2000 Spider Veloce variant was reputedly capable of 120mph. Continually evolved and improved, the S3 remained in production until 1990.
