Lot details Registration No: POG 14Y Chassis No: SADDALP3CC343794 Mot Expiry: Oct 2006
Visually updated by Pininfarina with a new 'glasshouse' and sharper, more a la mode sheetmetal, the Series III Daimler Sovereign was launched in March 1979. Retaining its predecessor's all round independent coil sprung suspension, disc brakes and power assisted rack and pinion steering, it was credited with a class leading ride / handling balance. Only available with Coventry's renowned 4.2 litre XK DOHC straight-six engine under the bonnet, the vast majority were specified with Borg Warner's smooth-shifting Model 66 automatic gearbox. Benefiting from the adoption of fuel-injection, the large capacity powerplant delivered improved economy as well as suitably authoritative performance.
Finished in metallic blue with beige leather upholstery, this particular automatic example is described by the vendor as being in "remarkable condition". Reported to have had just two registered keepers from new, it was in the first one's possession from August 1st 1982 until October 15th 2004 during which time the Daimler is reputed to have undergone an "oil and filter change every 2,000 miles". Said to drive "as new", this "very quiet and comfortable" Sovereign has covered just 67,854 miles in the last twenty-four or so years. Still sporting its original 'POG 14Y' registration number, it is offered for sale with history file (original handbooks, service books etc) and MOT certificate valid until October 2006. Worthy of the closest inspection or so the seller suggests, luxury motoring does not come much cheaper.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
