The last E-Type rolled off the production line in 1975, yet the model still has a unique ability to excite enthusiasts of all generations; its Malcolm Sayer-penned lines being among the most striking ever to adorn a motorcar. It made its debut at the 1961 Geneva Salon and was the fastest production car of its time. Despite this chart-topping performance, the engine size was increased from 3.8 to 4.2-litres in October 1964. For 1966, a 2+2 version of the Coupe was added to the range that was 9 inches longer and featured a more vertical windscreen. The Series 3 cars were introduced in 1971, virtually all of which were fitted with Jaguar's new 5.3-litre V12 engine. The original wheelbase was discontinued and the revised car offered only as a Roadster or 2+2 Coupe. By the time the E-Type was superseded by the XJS, some 15,000 V12-engined cars had been made.
This Series 3 E-Type's most recent keeper acquired the car in May 1980 for £5,500, at which time it is understood to have covered 36,678 miles. From then on we are informed that servicing and repair work were carried out regardless of cost, and on moving to the Isle of Man, he commissioned classic car specialist Octagon Workshop to repair or replace anything that was remotely worn. With bills already totalling £21,521, he sent the Jaguar to marque specialist R G Bate Engineering of Birkenhead in 1998 (at which the recorded mileage was 47,000), with the brief to 'make it perfect' - like the others, their considerable bills are included in the car's history file. A righthand drive home market car, this clearly cosseted V12 is finished in Azure Blue that's complemented by a Cream-coloured hide interior. Unlike so many series 3 cars, it is equipped with the desirable manual gearbox.
