The Dodge marque came about thanks to John and Horace Dodge establishing a machine shop in 1901, initially to make cycle parts, but soon to build engines and transmissions for Oldsmobile for their Curved Dash model. By 1903, the Dodge brothers were making components for Henry Ford's enterprise; by 1914, they were producing complete automobiles under their own Dodge badge. In 1928, however, as so much of the US motor industry merged into fewer bigger players, their Detroit firm had been taken over by Chrysler.
Following WW2, the 1959-launched Dart, with a new 3772cc sidevalve six underbonnet, was pitched at the pop car competition from the rival Ford-Chevrolet-Plymouth marques. We understand that the 1964-manufactured Dart offered here was in last ownership for over 20 years.
The convertible bodywork is said to be in very good condition, the blue and white paintwork good and the blue interior with renewed carpets and power-hood fabric are described as new. The 6-cylinder motor with newly replaced carburettor, electrical equipment and press-button 3-speed automatic transmission are reportedly all in good order and the radiator has been renewed. The 60,857 miles indicated when entered for the sale is believed by the entrant to be the genuine total mileage for this US classic from new, whilst because of its age it qualifies for Road Fund tax exemption and a free annual tax disc and the MOT is current until June.
