Lot details Registration No: RYR 550 Chassis No: 728141BW Mot Expiry: June 2005
Being auctioned here - without reserve too - is a good example of the Jaguar MkVII M model saloon. Originally purchased by the first registered owner in 1955, it was subsequently parked up in a barn in 1963 and unused for years. Happily, the original RYR 550 registration is still intact and in place on both car and paperwork, whilst the 31,973 mileage displayed when entered for this sale is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total for the luxury though still very sporting saloon since new.
Following acquisition in 2003, we understand that the MkVII was subjected to seventeen months of restoration work which involved the Coventry-built classic being completely stripped down. Both 3.4-litre XK six and three-speed automatic transmission were removed, checked out and rebuilt where necessary and refitted. Wings, inner wings and sills were renewed, underbody areas all sealed and repainted, and all brightwork rechromed. Inside, the seats were reupholstered in hide and the woodwork French polished. The fuel tank was flushed out, fuel and brake pipes renewed and brakes overhauled, new exhaust fitted and all hoses in the engine bay replaced.
The chassis has been more recently overhauled, of course, and the current condition of body panels, British Racing Green paintwork and light green trimmed leather interior are described as being new. The transmission has been rebuilt, engine and electrical equipment are reportedly in good order, and both MOT and tax-exempt disc will not need renewing until next June. The vendor has also informed us that there is a slight fault with the release valve on reverse gear.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
