Lot 30 - 1954 Lotus MK VI

1954 Lotus MK VI

Sold for £16,875

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: VSJ 192
Chassis No: MKVI-42
Mot Expiry: Oct 2005

This 1954-dated Lotus MkVI has been in the vendor's care for the past four years, the previous keeper owning the open two-seater for fifteen years during which time it was fully restored. The MK VI has tubular steel chassis and Williams and Pritchard beaten aluminium bodywork in dark blue, both said to be excellent.
The rear wings, also in aluminium, enclose the wheels, although included are a spare set of lightweight GRP rear wings which can be easily exchanged and attached with dzus fasteners. There are a roll-over bar with Petty Strut, also easily unbolted, and spare set of rear body panels to permit the fitting of the roll-over bar without alteration of the W&P bodywork.
The Ford 1172cc side valve motor, correct for this model and reportedly in excellent order, has Aquaplane cylinder head, front camshaft cover with cable-drive to original rev counter, twin SU carbs, four-branch exhaust manifold and lightweight electric starter. Full instruments are present including period large-dial chronometric tachometer, as are aluminium steering wheel, brown leather-covered seats in excellent condition, four-point harness, tonneau and set of five Bellamy wheels shod with Dunlop racers.
Lightly raced in the 750 Trophy series run by the 750MC, apart from one non-finish in its first race in 2000, the car has performed well, whilst at the same time remaining a reliable road car with MOT and tax disc valid until October 2005. JVS 192 has also been regularly displayed, participating in the 2002 VSCC 50 years of Lotus Engineering celebration and the 2003 750MC Summer Festival, when F1172 was featured, the car taking part in track parades at both events.
