Lot details Registration No: B80 REH Chassis No: SAJJCALP3CC412158 Mot Expiry: June 2008
Visually updated by Pininfarina with a new 'glasshouse' and sharper, more a la mode sheetmetal, the Series III Jaguar XJ6 was launched in March 1979. Retaining its predecessor's all-round independent coil-sprung suspension, disc brakes and power assisted rack and pinion steering, it was credited with a class leading ride / handling balance. Powered by a choice of 3.4 litre or 4.2 litre DOHC straight-six engines, the vast majority were specified with automatic transmission. Benefiting from the adoption of fuel-injection, the larger capacity powerplant delivered suitably authoritative performance. Appreciated for its elegant styling, quiet refinement and inviting cabin, the Series III XJ6 still cuts a dash on today's roads.
Finished in grey with grey leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Reportedly able to boast "full history going back to 1986" and "invoices amounting to in excess of £25,000", 'B80 REH' is understood to have covered some 118,000 miles from new (a figure substantiated by "fourteen former test certificates"). Said to have been "maintained by Jaguar main dealers Evans Halshaw", the saloon rides on correct-type pepper pot alloys. A comparatively late Series III XJ6, this pampered Sovereign is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until June 2008 and road tax valid until October 2007.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
