The MG B is and always has been a very popular car. With sales of more than 500,000 during its eighteen year production run, it outlasted and outsold that other icon of 1960s British motoring, the Jaguar E-Type. Introduced in 1965, some three years after its roadster sister, the GT was an altogether more practical proposition. Capable of year round use, it also boasted greater interior space and more relaxed high speed cruising. An enjoyable drive with a surprisingly modern feel thanks to its capable chassis and rack and pinion steering, it represents one of the most inexpensive ways to enjoy classic motoring.
Finished in white with brown cloth upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "fair" (chassis, interior trim) or "good" (1798cc engine, four-speed manual plus overdrive gearbox, electrical equipment, bodywork, paintwork) condition. Reportedly treated to a new engine some 24,000 miles ago, 'OBU 71P' is believed but not warranted to have covered 108,925 miles from new. Further benefiting from a stainless steel exhaust, stainless steel sill covers, tinted glass and a heated rear window, it was last on the road earlier this year. Although thought to be "mechanically good and an excellent runner", the B GT is said to require "a new offside inner sill, headlamp switch and other minor items" before passing a MOT test. A potentially inexpensive entry to MG motoring, 'OBU 71P' is perfect for those who like to while away the long winter nights by lead light.
