Lot details Registration No: XDL266K Chassis No: GHD528999YG Mot Expiry: March 2005
When the MGB replaced the A in September 1962, the main change was the use of a lower and wider steel monocoque bodyshell rather than a separate chassis and body, and a larger 1798cc engine instead of the 1622cc power unit fitted to the last of the previous MGA model.
This 1972 manufactured B GT was restored ten years ago whilst in the previous owner's hands. Since this renovation, the current lady owner tells us that the fixed head had been used sparingly, in good weather only, with servicing carried out regularly.
The vendor claims that the coupe bodywork is mostly sound with only minor bubbling to the Aqua Blue paintwork, whilst the interior in Navy leather is said to be OK. The 1.8-litre four reportedly starts readily and runs beautifully, the four-speed gearbox with the benefit of an overdrive is declared to be OK, too, and the electrical equipment works. The 96,102 miles displayed when entered for this sale is believed by the owner to be the genuine total mileage for the GT from new.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
