Development of the original 98cc Vespa continued after it was announced to the public, with a 125cc variant becoming available during May 1946. The larger model initially was produced in limited numbers with the majority going to export markets, but during 1948 the 125cc became the dominant model with production of the 98cc version ceasing in March of that year. By this time the Vespa had acquired front suspension, although the rigid rear end would not be replaced until 1949. The next major revision occurred for the 1951 season when the rod gear linkage was replaced by cables.
1954 saw the introduction of an enlarged version of the standard three speed Vespa fitted with an engine displacing 150cc and the announcement of the GS or Gran Sport in November 1954. Fitted with a four speed transmission and ten inch wheels it was capable of 60 mph and would influence the design of the standard models over the coming decade. By the early sixties the standard model was being offered with a choice of three or four speeds
This 1962 example has formed part of a private collection and is described by the vendor as being in beautifully restored overall condition. Finished in white and blue it is rated as being in mechanically good condition with excellent paintwork. It is accompanied by a Swansea V5C, some bills relating to the restoration, old MOTs and a service manual.
