The Silver Spirit was launched at the 1980 Paris Salon. Penned by Fritz Feller, it was a welcome replacement for the long-serving Silver Shadow and the first of a new generation of models that spawned the Flying Spur, Silver Dawn, Touring Limousine and Park Ward for Rolls-Royce, and the Mulsanne and Eight Series cars of its sister company Bentley. The opulent newcomer was lower and longer than the Shadow and featured a considerably larger glass area. Courtesy of its finely-tuned Girling hydraulic self-levelling suspension, it was said to provide the best roadholding ever offered by the marque. There were a total of four iterations of the Silver Spirit, via which it remained in production until 1998, before being replaced by the BMW V12-powered Silver Seraph.
This 1989 Silver Spirit is finished in Black complemented by Black-piped Magnolia-coloured hide. It was purchased new in the UK from Jack Barclay Ltd, London and then exported to Ireland during 1995, where it has been the property of the owner of a SEAT main dealership. Currently still on Irish plates, the Rolls-Royce is considered by the vendor to have "good" bodywork, paintwork, interior trim, eight-cylinder engine and three-speed automatic transmission, and is being offered complete with the original handbooks, and recent bills totalling £7,000.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
