This splendid and extremely rare survivor from Sunbeam 20HP production during WW1 is believed to have been used as a staff car upon leaving the works - the owner advising a photograph of it in camouflage livery exists but sadly he does not have a copy. With original bodywork displaying a wonderful patina and the original engine and gearbox, we are informed the original round cycle wings were replaced with the Edwardian style design currently fitted in the 1950s whilst in the long-term ownership of Roger Carter. Finished in Dove Grey with Black leather, in the current engineer owner's hands the engine and mechanicals have been the subject of much work and improvements resulting in a more reliable, useable and comfortable driving experience. We are indebted to the vendor for the following description:
"A very original and complete Edwardian, fitted with the rare 4.1-litre engine. With electric start and well sorted mechanics the car is reliable and useable. With the Auster screen and new wet weather equipment including tonneau and hood bag, both summer rallying and keeping dry are possible. It was serviced with an engine and gearbox oil change along with general chassis lubrication in February 2013. Two or possibly three tyres will need to be replaced (due to age) before the summer season starts. A rear trunk and support frame, several original tools, spares and other equipment and very detailed notes of all work carried out in the last ten years are with the car. It has given years of enjoyable motoring and I have every confidence it will continue to do so."
A current V5, VCC Dating Certificate dated Oct 1954, buff logbook, assorted old MoTs and invoices accompany the car. The car is now MOT exempt.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
