After a successful run, the T Series Bentley and Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow sister model were replaced by a new brace of cars with bodies designed by Austrian Fritz Feller. The new bodyshells were a little longer, wider and lower than the earlier models, and gave Bentley and R-R clients 30 per cent more glass area. Initially, the Bentley was named after the famous Mulsanne straight at Le Mans, where, prewar, the Bentley Boys had done so much to put W O Bentley's marque on the map. A turbocharged Mulsanne came out in 1982 and a further improved Turbo R joined the catalogue from 1985.
One of three such Turbo Rs in our sale today, this 1986 Crewe handbuilt luxury autobahn stormer has full service history on file up covering the first 90,959 miles and various old MOTs, including the current one, which will not need renewing until February. The 94,402 miles displayed on the odometer when entered for this sale is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage for the righthand drive car since new.
The overall condition of the 4-door saloon bodywork, the paintwork in Balmoral Green, the beige interior, the turbocharged 6750cc V8, the 3-speed automatic transmission and the electrical equipment are described as good. Such very British cars offer super car performance in a really luxurious and Bentley-badged package. Turbo Rs represent great value for money too.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
