This interesting machine was purchased from the Drixton following the 1970 Monza Race. According to Asa Moyce , the authority on Drixton racing machines, it was first seen at the 1970 East German Grand Prix. The frame, which was built by Marly Drixl, differed from the earlier 1967 pattern frames in having the top tubes pass over the cylinder heads of the 500cc twin cylinder Honda engine rather than around them as on the earlier machine. Asa Moyce suggests that only a couple of examples of this chassis were built, being used, together with the earlier variant by T Denneghey, Jean Campiche and Lewis Young to secure top ten finishes in the 1970 premier class.
The machine, which has been in the same ownership for the last twenty five years, is offered in original, unrestored condition. The 500cc engine features twin plug heads with Dell 'Orto 38mm SS carburettors. The two into one exhaust system and oil cooler are later additions as are they electronic ignition system and tachometer. The oil cooler is thought to have been fitted to counter Italy's warm climate and the exhaust system may improve torque. Ceriani rear suspension units and BEB forks help keep things under control and Fontana brakes retard the machine. A fairing is provided with this machine which is described as running well.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
