1935 Rolls-Royce 20/25hp Saloon

Sold for £19,969

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: BXB 55
Chassis No: GRF21
Mot Expiry: July 2008

Launched in 1929, the Rolls-Royce 20/25 was powered by a 3669cc OHV straight-six engine. Usefully faster than its 20hp predecessor, the model remained in production until 1936. Available with synchromesh on 3rd and 4th gears from 1932 onwards, it helped cement the marque's reputation for engineering refinement.

According to the accompanying continuation buff logbook, chassis GRF21 was registered new on 1st March 1935. Fitted with elegant four-door saloon coachwork by Park Ward, its current cream-over-brown livery is thought to date from an extensive 1960s restoration carried out by F. Wood Esq of Brighouse (the then owner). Though, the wonderfully patinated dark red / fawn leather upholstery looks to be older still. Entering the current ownership in 2004, the Rolls-Royce has since been treated to almost £10,000 worth of fettling by I. K. Classics including a new stainless-steel exhaust system (March 2006), cleaned / flushed cylinder block water passages (May 2006) and overhauled dynamo / magneto / starter motor (February 2007). While, other work has seen five new tyres fitted (£1,400.89, August 2004), the steering box overhauled by Fiennes Restoration (£4,314.11, February / March 2005) and the car completely rewired (£1,838.81, May 2007). Between Continental Tours with the RREC (Alsace 2006, Denmark 2007) and other motoring, the 20/25 has covered an impressive 8,000 miles over the last three years. However, we are informed that "the only time the car 'failed to proceed' was because of a failed battery - now replaced". Sporting a side-mounted spare wheel, Lucas Bi-Flex headlamps and wheel discs, this lovely old Rolls-Royce is offered for sale with history file (numerous invoices, rewiring photos etc), MOT certificate valid until July 2008 and historic class (free) road tax valid until January 2008.

All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.

You can collect your new pride and joy from our venue until 1pm the day following the sale or our partners are on hand to help arrange safe transportation:
