Lot details Registration No: DS 7714 Chassis No: A815123 Mot Expiry: Nov 2011
The Model T phenomenon lasted 18 years, but by 1926 even Henry Ford had to admit that the car that 'put the world on wheels' had finally run out of steam. No follower of convention, he terminated T production on May 26th 1927 immediately after the 15 millionth example had rolled off the line, despite having nothing to replace it with. Henry himself directed the development of: a new longer, lower-slung chassis; a Howard Hicks-designed 3285cc, four-cylinder engine; three-speed manual transmission and novel electrical system. His son Edsel was appointed to mastermind a scaled-down version of the Lincoln he had guided to success. By the time the Model A made its debut on December 2nd, there was a backlog of 400,000 orders for a car nobody had seen. Nearly 5 million Model As were produced by the time the range gave way to the Model B in 1931.
Manufactured in December 1928, 'DS 7714' arrived in the UK during the mid '80s. It was owned for many years by Wing Commander Richard Seys of Kent, who apparently used the car in continental rallies and UK events. On his death it was inherited by his Canada-based son. The latter intended to have a gearbox problem resolved and the car returned to North America. However, the plan remained unexecuted, and after a further 12 years it was purchased by the vendor who repaired the damaged transmission casing and recommissioned the vehicle. An LHD model, the Ford is finished in Green with Black wings and has a Black/Brown interior. The vendor informs us the bodywork is in "very good condition", the paintwork "good apart from some micro blisters", the brightwork "good" and the fascia "period-correct". Apparently the venerable Ford will cruise at 45 mph and is considered ideal for VSCC trials etc.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT until November 2011.
